I’ve heard if you want to reach the parents, you market to the kids. The same can be said about “fur-kids”. Since it is the Year of the Dog, it offers the perfect opportunity to tie in with some fun themed marketing. With an influx of promotional items that are geared toward pets, a great way to build goodwill of your brand or product is to tie it to promotional items for the four-legged kids of the household. I mean, I drive through the bank just so my dog can get a biscuit. I could do most of it on-line, but I love the way he watches the tube for the biscuit to arrive. With an imprinted dog biscuit you suddenly not only have a treat for Fido, but a way to make an additional impression on Mom because you went to the effort to have something made special for my “kid”.
Leashes, tennis balls, stuffed toys, dog safe flyers, bowls, food scoops, bandannas, whistles and can cover lids are just some of the most commonly used marketing items for pets, and while they are great, think beyond the “tried and true”. A little creativity goes a long way. Team up a pet waste bag dispenser (a.k.a poop bags) with a clip on hand sanitizer. Or pet paw wipes with a pet travel water bottle. Pair a pet brush with a lint roller (for the humans). Dentist offices would do well to hand out imprinted pet toothbrushes to tie in dental health for the whole family. Insurance agents can use a reflective collar tag or emergency rescue window decals to show their care and concern for the safety of the whole family. Bags of dog or cat treats with a removable magnet are an effective way to market pet sitting services, a new veterinary clinic or even a lawn care business.
Marketing your pet products to the human buyers, think about paw shaped clips, animal themed drawcord backpacks or lunch bags, magnetic picture frames, paw shaped banks, bookmark or stuffed animal.
