More & more companies we work with are looking for ways to take action on climate change and build it into their corporate culture. Buying sustainable and eco-friendly swag and giveaways is one way to do that. Another area I want to talk about is corporate imprinted apparel, specifically t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Many of the t-shirt lines are adding bamboo and organic cotton choices to their lines, which I think is a step in the right direction for our industry. One of the lines we sell, Continental Clothing, has taken a quantum leap towards true sustainability: Climate Neutral Clothing.
This is clothing made to the highest possible environmental, social and ethical standards. Facilities have been audited by the Fair Wear Foundation, and the line is certified by the Oeko-Tex 100 Standard, Class I, which guarantees the safety of textiles and dyestuffs to human health. The primary source of energy to make the clothing is wind power, and the cotton comes from sustainably farmed land that is planted and harvested by hand.
The company follows the recommendations of the Environmental Justice Foundation with regard to where they source their cotton. For example, they do not source cotton from Uzbekistan where forced child labor is endemic.
And what about all that water I mentioned earlier? That’s the reason they’ve chosen to work in a region that receives 95% of its water from the monsoon rains, which reduces the need for large-scale irrigation (which often deprives local villages of water by draining lakes and rivers). This apparel was awarded the Carbon Trust’s carbon reduction label for textile products – one of the first in it’s kind in the world.
We’re proud to offer our clients the Continental Clothing line and their Earth Positive line of t-shirts and sweatshirts. You can learn more by visiting their website: www.continentalclothing.com
